Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a Hollywood type romcom: Karan Johar

Though inherently Karan Johar's EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is a romcom, from the treatment perspective it follows the 'conversational route'. Even from genre perspective, it was a conscious call by first time director Shakun Batra to present the movie in a way that hadn't been attempted before in a Bollywood film.

"Yes, this is something new that Shakun is attempting here. He is a big fan of Woody Allen and brings with him a different grammar of filmmaking," says Karan, "As a result of that, you would see a lot more conversations happening here. You would notice that in many a Hollywood romcom, there are these walk-talk sequences where it is just you and the camera in motion. You would see something similar out here in EK MAIN AUR EKK TU."

The filmmaker also believes that such films are far more difficult to do than conventional cinema.

"It is far tougher to find connectivity with an audience since there are no buffers like dramatic pauses, background score, props etc. to enhance a scene. It is just the actors doing their talk and the trick is to hold a viewer's attention right through their conversation," he says.

Still, since Kareena is an experienced actor while Imran comes with some typical urban sensibilities, one can well expect that for both the actors, understanding the nuances of the narrative and executing that on screen would be akin to a walk in the park. "Well, it was certainly not a walk in the park for them though I can tell you that there was a lot of walking in the park required," quips Karan.

The movie is set to release worldwide on 10th Feb 2012. Lets wait & watch...

Hrithik Roshan is not the fittest actor in Bollywood says John Abraham

Hrithik Roshan might have won millions of hearts owing to his fit shape but there is someone who thinks Hrithik is not actually the fittest actor in town.

Yes, you heard it right. John Abraham does not agree to the popular perception of Hrithik being the fittest actor in town and the actor has his own good reasons to claim so. Says John, "There is no bollywood actor who is a perfect example of fitness. Hrithik has a great upper body but that is not enough. If I have to name one actor who I am impressed with as far as fitness is concerned, it will be Akshay Kumar."

John also has some tips for the Indian men as far as fitness is concerned. He adds, "I would advise Indian men to care for their lower body workout too. Fitness is not having bulging biceps and a great chest alone. Working out your legs is as important as the upper body."

Well, let's see if Hrithik has anything to say to add to John's claim.

Don 2 Weekend Overseas

Don 2 had the second biggest opening ever in Overseas as it collected around $5.10 million in its first weekend. In UK it had an extended five day weekend. The highest weekend ever is My Name Is Khan with $5.30 million. The film should hold steady on the weekdays in overseas as is its a holiday period and many holidays on the weekdays. The major market numbers for the weekend are as follows.

United Kingdom - £515,000 (5 Days)

North America - $1,675,000

UAE - $1,100,000

Australia - $300,000

Agneepath Music Review - Joginder Tuteja

EXPECTATIONS

I went through quite a predicament before playing the songs of Agneepath. After all, from an album coming from the house of Karan Johar, you do expect a soundtrack that stays with you for long. On the other hand from a film like Agneepath that is basically a revenge drama with action at the core of it, nothing more than situational is expected. I wondered how composers Ajay-Atul, along with lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya, would strike a balance between coming up with something commercially while balancing it out with the core theme of the film. That's the reason why expectations were pretty much kept in check.

MUSIC

Perhaps Karan Johar too went through the same predicament due to which it's an item number that comes at the very beginning of the album. 'Chikni Chameli' is what kick-starts the proceedings forAgneepath and in one quick shot, it manages to lay all doubts to rest. A quintessentially mass pleasing number that has absolutely nothing to do with Agneepath as a film but would still ensure that not just the album sales/ringtone downloads are brisk but there are ample footfalls in theatres as well, 'Chikni Chameli' is a comfortable addition to Katrina Kaif's repertoire after 'Sheila Ki Jawani'.

A racy number that doesn't give a moment to breathe, 'Chikni Chameli' is bound to be the talk of the town for next one month at the least due to an intrinsic rhythm that gets the feet tapping. A special word for Shreya Ghoshal too who changes her singing style in a big way and comes up trumps. She gets the kind of rustic flavour that was the need of the hour and is superb in her rendition. Expect her to find quite a few award nominations coming her way.

There is quick speed breaker though that comes in the form of 'O Saiyyan'. Frankly, it doesn't quite make for a welcome entry here because such is the kind of euphoria set by 'Chikni Chameli' that one doesn't want the fun element to go off. Fine, so one isn't looking for yet another item number here but a song like 'O Saiyaan', which (despite being a love song) basically sounds like a sad outing by Roop Kumar Rathod, surprisingly comes way too soon hence making one quickly move on to the next song in the offering.

Spunk returns to some extent at the least with Sunidhi Chauhan coming behind the mike for 'Gun Gun Guna'. A happy-go-lucky song where Priyanka Chopra could well be singing with a bunch of friends about looking ahead in life and feeling happy about what it has to offer in abundance, this one is a situational outing as well and just doesn't seem to be belonging to Karan Joihar stable. With a 'desi' touch to it, 'Gun Gun Guna' is set in the 70s template. Though it is easy on ears, this song (which has Udit Narayan joining in later and reminding one of his 'O Re Chori - Lagaan' act) is well tuned and worded though it's shelf life is restricted to the film's run.

However the song that manages to create a huge impact after 'Chikni Chameli' is 'Shah Ka Rutba'. A 'qawalli' that starts on a high note with Sukhwinder Singh at his boisterous best, it manages to strike an instant connect with the listener due to it's apparent similarities with 'Yaar Hai Imaan Mera' [Zanjeer]. Frankly, even though quite a few songs in the last four decades have tried to ignite a similar mood as the song that was picturised on Pran-Amitabh Bachchan, not many have succeeded in doing that. However one can be rest assured that given the kind of overall setup that 'Shah Ka Rutba' boasts of (with Anand Raaj Anand and Krishna Beura joining Sukhwinder Singh), it would manage to create a powerful impact in the film's narrative. Now one waits to see whether it is Rishi Kapoor who faces camera for this 'qawalli'.

Finally comes a song that could well have been composed keeping in mind that this is a Karan Johar film after all! Sonu Niigaam, who is always a delight to listen to, especially when it comes to soulful romantic tracks, strikes again with 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin'. Just the kind of song that was pretty much required to give a sense of completeness to Agneepath, this one also boasts of some poetic writing by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Even though it isn't catchy enough to become the next big chartbuster, 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin' still has good enough holding power to keep you engaged while it plays.

Last to arrive is 'Deva Shree Ganesha', the 'Ganpati' song which can be heard in some bits and pieces in the theatrical promo of Agneepath that has been released so far. This one has just the right kind of verve that reminds one of the 'masala' films of 70s/80s. The pace is just perfect, the mood is vibrant, the mood more than just religious but also highly dramatic while vocals (by Ajay Gogavale) that are completely in synch with the mind state of the protagonist. In fact it won't be wrong to say that the song pretty much reminds of the kind of mood created in Sunil Dutt's 'Zakhmee Dilon Ka Badla' [Zakhmee].

OVERALL

When one revisits the entire album, it is quite apparent that Karan Johar, Karan Malhotra along with Ajay-Atul and Amitabh Bhattacharya wanted a 70s feel for the entire soundtrack. This is quite clear when one looks at the three most mass friendly numbers, 'Chikni Chameli', 'Deva Shree Ganesha' and 'Shah Ka Rutba', based on 'Mundga' [Inkaar], 'Zakhmee Dilon Ka' [Zakhmee] and 'Yaari Hai Imaan' [Zanjeer] - each of which was released in the 70s. While 'Deva Shree....' and 'Shah Ka...' should get popular after the film's release, 'Chikni Chameli' would be a good enough reason to set up brisk sales for the album.

OUR PICK(S)

Chikni Chameli, Deva Shree Ganesha, Shah Ka Rutba, Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin

Players Music Review - Joginder Tuteja

EXPECTATIONS Now this is one soundtrack that belongs to 'much awaited' category. Right from 'Khiladi' to 'Race', Abbas-Mustan have always maintained that good music is an integral part of their films. What also makes their music spicier is the thriller genre that most of the films by the men-in-white belong to. With a lethal combination like this when Pritam steps into the arena, it is time to await some high energy soundtrack that would be upmarket and boast of a club sound. This is exactly what one gets in 'Players' as well which has lyricist Ashish Pandit taking complete advantage of the big opportunity that has come his way.

MUSIC The way 'Jis Jagah Pe Khatam' begins, it pretty much establishes the mood of the soundtrack which is in accordance to the film's genre. A mood building outing with Neeraj Shridhar, Siddharth Basrur and Mauli Dave coming together to sing for a tune which has a strong Pritam stamp to it, 'Jis Jagah Pe Khatam' could well have been a song for 'Golmaal 4' if one goes by the sheer attitude here. The song (also appearing in a 'remix version') may not be an out of the world experience that would make you stand up and start humming it every juncture. However play it loud and you are bound to get excited about catching them. If 'Zara Zara Touch Me' was an anthem track in 'Race', an attempt to recreate a similar mode is made in the form of 'Jhoom Jhoom Ta Ja'. While Ritu Pathak goes solo with this song and tried to get a sense of seduction through her vocals, the song surprisingly works more when Siddharth Basrur comes up with a male version. This time around the song has a club feel to it and the kind of sound created by Pritam at the very beginning is pretty much a DJ's delight. Ditto for the version done by Arijit Singh which is also credited as the one which would be seen in the film. There is some good fun ahead with Yashita Yashpal's 'Ho Gayi Tun' which is all set to keep the masses happy. The song works as an instant winner and has a catchy sound to it which yet again entices one to hit the dance floor. In fact the very theme of the song is about a female protagonist hunting for some 'desi beats' that would add on to her uninhibited state. Surprisingly the song doesn't find a 'remix version' for itself. A tribute is paid to Charlie's Angels with a song that goes as 'Buddhi Do Bhagwaan - Charlie's Song'. The 'buddhi' here stands for 'wisdom' and while Shruti Pathak is the female voice for the song, it is Abhishek Bachchan who gets into the 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hai' (Bluffmaster) mode here by getting behind the mike. A fun song which yet again boasts of some catchy music and works instantly, it also stands out due to it's funny lyrics. Though it works in the album, one wonders how it would find it's way in the film which is basically about a gold heist.

The best is (surprisingly) reserved for the last though with Pritam coming up with 'Dil Ye Bekarar Kyun Hai'. Now this is the kind of number that one always expects from Pritam despite the film genre, whether it is gold heist or a quintessential love story. A love song which is sing with aplomb by Mohit Chauhan, it does have a few touch-points of 'Te Aa Mo' (Dum Maaro Dum), again by Pritam, but one doesn't mind that as it only brings in a 'thehrav' to the album which was otherwise on a fast and furious mode. Ashish Pandit too gets into a lovey-dovey mode for this song which deservingly appears again as a 'reprise version' by Nikhil D'Souza and Priyani Vani (quite good again) and later in a 'remix' (which acts as a good round up for the album).

OVERALL 'Players' delivers what one expected from it. The need of the situation was to have a racy score that compliments the fast paced story telling of Abbas-Mustan. While one waits to see how the director duo does justice to the film's genre, the first step here (music) is indeed in the right direction. Though the song which has the most potential of being a 'lambi race ki ghoda' is 'Dil Ye Bekarar Kyun Hai', others would work as instant coffee that would keep the momentum up for the film's narrative.

OUR PICK(S) Dil Ye Bekarar Kyun Hai, Jhoom Jhoom Ta Hun Main, Buddhi Do Bhagwaan - Charlie's Song, Ho Gayi Tun

Don 2 weekend business

Don 2 has had a very good first weekend of around 45 crore nett plus for its Hindi version. The approx collections were 14 crore nett on Friday, 14 crore nett on Saturday and 17-17.25 crore nett on Sunday. The Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions have added around 1.50 crore nett over the weekend.

The business has been best in places like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Kolkata and Bangalore while CP Berar, CI and Bihar have recorded figures that are well below the mark for a big event film. Sunday saw a big jump in single screens in UP and Gujarat but it is probably due to Christmas day holiday as long term single screens may not sustain.

Don 2 is a winner but the weekdays will determine if it can get over the 100 crore nett mark, for that to happen the week will have to finish around the 70 crore nett mark, a first week finish more closer to 65 crore nett will probably mean a 90-92 crore nett final total.

Agneepath Trailer Analysis - Gautam Batra

Agneepath is the 2012 remake of the 1990 Hindi film of the same name. It is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Karan Johar's former assistant Karan Malhotra. Hrithik Roshan will play the role originally played by Amitabh Bachchan.Priyanka Chopra will be the female lead. The character played by Mithun Chakraborty has been totally done away with in the remake. The main villain will be played by Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor will play another negative character. It has been reported that Zarina Wahab will play Hrithik's mother. Shooting took place in Mumbai's film city and Gujarat's Diu, India. The Movie is set to release on 26th January 2012.

Recently the second theatrical trailer of the movie is released with Don 2 and it is simply Mind Blowing. The trailer ensures the movie to be fully action packed. Hrithik Roshan impresses in the role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan & Sanjay Dutt too looks very much impactful in the character of main villian 'Kaancha Cheena'. Every character in the movie seems in full form. Dialogues are also well written and delievered. The trailer with its massy appeal ensures the huge opening for the movie in Single Screens & good in multiplexes too which will break many records.

On the whole Agneepath second trailer is excellent and surely increases the excitement.

Don 2 Opening Day Business

Don 2 has had a very good first day of around 13.50 crore nett in Hindi with another 60-70 lakhs coming from the dubbed versions as per early estimates.
It is the fourth highest opening day in history and the second highest non holiday first day after Dabangg. The film will be dependent on trending and with mass centres under performing there is potential for good growth over the weekend but the problem may be content not going down too well in these areas.
The urban multiplexes have done extremely well but are unlikely to grow much as they are at very high levels on day one so a big final total is dependent on how the mass centres perform over the next few days.

The film has performed best in West Bengal and South but none of the circuits apart from Mysore have put up very huge numbers because of the mass centres under performing. Mysore has hardly any mass centres. In UP only Lucknow has performed well, in Rajasthan, the contribution is mainly from Jaipur while in East Punjab only Gurgaon and Chandigarh put up big numbers.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya - Official Trailer

Don 2 Movie Review - Komal Nahta

After establishing his supremacy over the Asian underworld, Don (Shah Rukh Khan), wants to rule the Eurpoe underworld. For this, he hatches a complex plan to loot currency note printing plates from a German bank. He enlists the support of Vardhan (Boman Irani) and others for the same. Roma, an Interpol detective (Priyanka Chopra), is closely following his case. What is his plan? Read the review of Don 2 for more.

Business rating: 3.5/5 stars

Star cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Om Puri, Hrithik Roshan.

What’s Good: The engaging post-interval portion, Shah Rukh Khan’s endearing performance; the canvas; the stylised acting and narration; the revelation of the suspense.

What’s Bad: The slow-paced first half; the technical details in the drama which will confuse a section of the audience; the music; the boring portions which spring up at several places.

Verdict: Don 2 is a winner. It will score at the box-office and yield good profits to all concerned.

Loo break: A couple in the first half.

Watch or Not?: Definitely watch it for Shah Rukh Khan’s performance and the stylised narration.

Reliance Entertainment and Excel Entertainment’s Don 2, an action-thriller, is the sequel to Don. Having established his supremacy over Asia, Don (Shah Rukh Khan) now wants to rule over the underworld of Europe too. But for this, he needs the support of Vardhan (Boman Irani) who is in jail in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Don surrenders before Interpol detectives Malik (Om Puri) and Roma (Priyanka Chopra) in Malaysia and meets Vardhan in prison. He tells Vardhan of his plan to himself escape and also make him escape from jail – and carries out the plan.

Vardhan has one key and Don, the other key, of a locker in which is a recorded tape with evidence to blackmail J.K. Diwan (Aly Khan), vice president of Deutsche Zurich Bank in Berlin (Germany). Don shares with Diwan the incriminating footage and in return for not exposing him, asks him for the access codes used to lay hands on the plates necessary to print currency notes in Germany. He plans to smuggle the plates out of the bank, print currency notes and become a billionaire. Even if new and different plates would be made by the authorities, he is sure that it would be impractical and impossible to make the existing currency notes useless.

Diwan hires Jabbar (Nawab Shah) to kill Don so that he does not have to give him access to the plates but Don not only escapes but also takes Jabbar on his side. He forces Diwan to now give him the access codes, which the latter does. He also uses his own ways to ensure that he and his team can gain entry into the bank and the vault where the plates are kept. He hires the services of Sameer Ali (Kunal Kapoor), an expert computer hacker. Assisted by his girlfriend, Ayesha (Lara Dutta), Vardhan, Jabbar and Sameer Ali, Don hatches the master plot to enter the high-security bank and escape with the plates kept in a highly-guarded safe deposit vault. Everything goes according to plan till Vardhan and Jabbar turn against Don and demand the plates from him with the intention of ditching him. Don has no option but to give them the plates.

Meanwhile, Interpol detectives Malik and Roma have also reached the bank in Berlin to interrogate Diwan as Roma is sure that Diwan has links with Don. There’s further setback in store for Don when Sameer Ali telephones the police and has Don arrested while Don and he are escaping from the bank.

What happens thereafter? Does Don get back the plates? Do Vardhan and Jabbar again join forces with Don? Do Malik and Roma get to know the truth about J.K. Diwan? What happens to J.K. Diwan? Is Don arrested and put behind bars? Why did Sameer Ali get Don arrested? Was he acting on someone’s behest? What happens to Ayesha?

Don 2 Review: Script Analysis

Farhan Akhtar, Ameet Mehta and Ambrish Shah’s story and screenplay are basically about plotting and planning, which keep the audience’s interest alive. The first half, however, moves at a leisurely pace and takes a while to come to the point. It is after interval that the pace picks up but even in the post-interval part, the initial reels are too technical and get confusing for the average viewer. But the last few reels are very engrossing and the revelation of the suspense (like in the first part, Don) is the highlight. Intrigue, suspense, style and drama – the four highlights of Don are in evidence in the sequel too.

By its very nature, the film relies too heavily on computer hacking and technicalities when Don and his team break into the bank and try to reach the plates. This portion will be difficult for the audience in the small centres to understand. The multiplex audience may find it engaging but the viewers in single-screen cinemas would not care too much for this part of the film. But the last few reels have a lot of appeal for all kinds of audience. Besides, the charm of Don works so effectively that the public would enjoy the film despite the aforementioned limitations. Because Don is such a charismatic character, the audience roots for him and feels a sense of elation when he accomplishes a task or proves one-up on his adversaries. This is indeed creditable because Don, after all, is a negative character. Credit for making this possible would go as much to the writers as to Shah Rukh Khan who plays Don.

On the minus side, all that Don and his team do seems so easy that it appears rather unbelievable at times. Besides the confusing portion of the drama, this is another drawback of the script. Farhan Akhtar’s dialogues could’ve packed in more punch and power as they, at places, seem quite tame, especially those mouthed by Don, given that he is so powerful. But his dialogue about his mother being happy if she were alive and about and his dialogue about ‘Sir’ not going well with his personality are brilliant. Light moments are few and far between and had there been more of them, the appeal of the film would’ve been bigger.

Don 2 Review: Star Performances

Shah Rukh Khan is the life of the film and charms his way into the audience’s hearts. He shines in the role of Don and uses all the charisma at his command to make his character supremely endearing. His dialogue delivery, facial expressions and wicked laughter add up to an enjoyable package. His attitude and body language are oh so endearing. Priyanka Chopra gets limited scope and is suitably restrained as the Interpol detective. She looks sexy. Lara Dutta is alright but somehow, she does not add the desired dose of glamour in a fairly long special appearance, and even her scope, is restricted. Boman Irani shines in the role of Vardhan. He is menacing and manipulative, as is the demand of the character. Aly Khan plays his part with calculated coolness. Kunal Kapoor leaves a mark. Nawab Shah is alright as Jabbar. Om Puri has been wasted. Sahil Shroff looks handsome and does a fair job as Arjun. Hrithik Roshan springs a surprise in a special appearance and does a fine job although the track looks forced. Others lend fair support.

Don 2 Review: Direction & Music

Farhan Akhtar’s direction is stylized and suited to the story. He has given the film a huge canvas and his approach makes it look like a very slick Hollywood film. His shot takings deserve distinction marks. But it must also be said that his drama and narration lack too many high points and excitement. In the absence of a solid antagonist, Don’s journey looks almost unchallenged and, therefore, unexciting at places. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is disappointing. None of the songs has a memorable tune and is far from being a hit. Given the ordinary music, the song picturisations (Vaibhavi Merchant) also lose their impact. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are meaningful. Background score is effective. Jason West’s cinematography is outstanding. The brilliance of his work is evident in outdoor as well as indoor shooting. The locations of Germany, Malaysia and Switzerland look stunning. Action scenes, composed by Action Concept, are lovely. Anand Subaya’s editing is very sharp. Production values are grand. Technically, it is a very superior product.

Don 2 Review: Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Don 2 may not give the discerning audience a great high but it will be loved by those who like style, intrigue, suspense and attitude. It will score at the box-office and yield good profits to Reliance Entertainment (worldwide distributors). The producers, of course, have already made a huge profit by selling the worldwide rights and also by getting heavy subsidy from the German government. Business in big cities and multiplexes will be far better than in smaller towns and single-screen cinemas. The film will work wonders in the Overseas circuit.

Raju Hirani will not do the Munna Bhai 3?

Munna Bhai has managed to create quite a controversy in the recent past. This time, off the silver screen. Reports ranging from a replacement of the two lead actors Sanjay 'Munna' Dutt and Arshad 'Circuit' Warsi to a change in the director have made its way to the headlines.

And the producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has finally decided to reveal the real plans. The film, which will now go on floors tentatively by the end of 2012, will have its lead cast intact. However, the directorial reins might just change hands.

Rajkumar Hirani, who has been an inseparable part of the Munna Bhai franchise thus far might not get to direct the third part in the series. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Rajesh Mapuskar, who has directed Chopra's forthcoming film Ferrari Ki Sawaari, is being considered as a replacement for Hirani. Confirming that he is indeed working on Munna Bhai 3 with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, Chopra said, "We are writing the film now. Hirani is making another film. So, it could be him directing my film or it could be Rajesh Mapuskar. Rajesh has done a great job with Ferrari Ki Sawaari."

"You know what, Hirani, Mapuskar and I work as a family. We at Vinod Chopra Films work like a family. Now, Hirani has written the dialogues for Mapuskar's film. And Hirani is the biggest director in this country. Tell me, which director will want to write dialogues for his assistant's film after being so successful in life?" added Chopra.

Explaining why it took him over five years to plan the third part of the successful franchise (Lage Raho Munna Bhai release in September 2006), Chopra said, "I shall never lower the standards of my company. Ingmar Bergman (Swedish director) said: The first commandment of cinema is 'Thou shall entertain'. The second commandment is 'Thou shall entertain without selling your soul'. This company has not sold its soul for 30 years and never will. If I make Munna Bhai 3 just because I want to make Rs 200 crore overnight, it would be selling my soul. I will never do any film thinking isme toh maal banega, bech do. The point that I am trying to make here is that I am not going to make a bad Munna Bhai just to make money. If that were the case, I would have made the third part two years ago. I am trying to make a great movie. And I am hoping that I shall succeed."

Talking about the various offers made by foreign production houses to buy off the superhit franchise, Chopra added, "There are offers where people want to buy into my company, into my franchise. I am not in the business of buying and selling. I am in the business of making movies and before I die, I want to interact with people on some ideas, which I have about life. Like Gandhigiri, which was depicted in Lage Raho Munnabhai. And I think that Gandhigiri is relevant even today. In fact, it is relevant forever. Even today, if an old man goes to a corrupt official and strips, the official will get embarrassed and give him his dues."

Chopra, who was miffed with Sanjay Dutt for using the Munna Bhai name to his political benefit, needless to say has patched up with the actor. "All that is a thing of the past now.Let me not get into the details of how it got resolved. But everything is fine between Sanju and me now," confirmed Chopra.

Don 2 Boxoffice Opening Pre Release Prediction - Gautam Batra

Don 2 is an upcoming Indian action thriller film directed by Farhan Akhtar. It is a sequel to the 2006 film, Don: The Chase Begins Again. The film stars Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles and also Om Puri, Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor in supporting roles. The film marks Farhan Akhtar's return to direction after a gap of nearly 5 years. It also marks Khan's return to playing villainous characters in lead roles since his earlier films like Darr and Baazigar and first sequel in his two-decade old career.

It is set to release on 23 December 2011, in both 2D and 3D formats and will also be available in Tamil and Telugu languages. The film was shot in India, Germany, Malaysia and Switzerland.

Lets start with the prediction....

1. The promos of the movie has got mixed response from audience & music also has not done well which is a big negative for good opening day.

2. Shahrukh is coming back after Ra.one which got Disastrous WOM from audience but it is a sequel to successful movie Don & is directed by Farhan Akhtar who has created much trust among audiences specially classes which will help.

3. Promotion has also been a low key which will affect negatively but movie is getting very huge release which is a positive.

4. It is the last big release of the year and Shahrukh Khan has huge fan following so we can expect atleast good opening day which can give better weekend with good WOM.

On the whole Don 2 is expected to have a 13-14 crore opening day...

Disclaimer:The prediction is my own idea gathered from the surveys & buzz about the movies. It is accurate to best of my knowledge but the final boxoffice figures can be sometimes different due to uncertainity in boxoffice. The figures given are the nett domestic figures.

Three Idiots takes huge opening in China

Three Idiots grossed $1.15 million in its first four days of release in China. The figure is a huge number but the release was also huge with over 2,800 shows per day over the first four days and 800 prints in play.

It is the first Hindi film to get such a big release in China so there is nothing to compare with. Over the four days there was 11,224 shows with 240,274 admissions.

My Name Is Khan was released in China in November 2010 but on a much smaller scale and did not do well enough to get a wider release. It will be the trending that will tell if Three Idiots has done well and was worth such a big release.

The $1.15 million collected in China takes the Three Idiots total overseas gross on par with My Name Is Khan which at around $22 million which is the highest grossing film overseas and Three Idiots will go ahead with the additional income to crom from China. But My Name Is Khan is due a Hong Kong release early next year which could add to its numbers as well.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl well sustains on Monday

Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl hald up pretty well on Monday as it recorded around 2.50 crore nett business as per early estimates. The drop is around 45% from Friday.

This takes the four day business of the film to around 19 crore nett and the film should get close to 25 crore nett in its first week.

Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl is being helped by strong business in Delhi city as some multiplexes in the capital were just 30-40% lower than Friday. The film also dropped less than 50% in places like CP Berar and CI but numbers are still low in these circuits as it started at a low level on Friday.

The film was always going to make good money as it only needed 10-11 crore from theatres worldwide due to good recoveries from non theatrical rights but with the film sustaining pretty well at multiplexes in some parts of the country on Monday it should comfortably cross 30 crore nett mark for lifetime business. If the second weekend can hold up a bit then it could hit the 35 crore nett mark which would be pretty good domestic theatrical business.
